what's new in new dawg city

June 14, 2008 - The Equipment

When we were in Peru, there was a girl staying in our hotel who had the life we wanted. She worked as an information architect for various companies, she did this remotely and so was able to spend 8 months of the year traveling. As long as she had her laptop and an internet connection, she could get work done and in return fund her nomadic lifestyle. This is what I want to do!

So the first thing I think I should consider in this pre-pre-planning mode is what sort of computer gear is practical to carry from country to country? Something I obviously don't need to spend too much money for fear that it breaks, gets stolen, crashes, etc. I assume this something would also need to be a Mac. If I'm never sure of the connection, don't want to be setting myself up to catch horrible viruses and ruin my "career." Open to suggestions here.

The camera, for the prospect of becoming a renowned travel photographer, I got. My trusty Canon Digital Rebel XTi! I bought it before we went to Peru last year and it is incredible. There are better cameras for sure, but this thing is solid, practical, and I was able to afford it!
