what's new in new dawg city

CancelledJuly 7, 2008 - Our Thailand Itinerary, So Far.

After much hemming and hawing, Elliot finally managed to rebook us via American Airlines. We were even able to use mileage again toward one of the tickets, so the total cost of the flights is pretty much a wash, despite the chaos. However, AA doesn't seem to be feeling so hot these days, so keep your fingers crossed that they will even still be a company by November.

So, here is the "general itinerary" for our trip:

Friday Oct. 31 -
Leave JFK 11:30 AM

Saturday Nov. 1 -
Arrive Tokyo 2:40 PM, leave Tokyo 6:45 PM andĀ arrive Bangkok at 11:50 PM. OY. Long trip.

Sunday Nov. 2 -
Fly to Phuket or Krabi, boat to Ko Lanta or Ko Phi Phi. Much needed R&R to be had, drinks, massage, good eats and some snorkeling are all on the menu.

Wednesday Nov. 5
Fly Phuket to Chiang Mai

Thursday Nov. 6 - Monday Nov. 10 -
In Chiang Mai - Watting, Trekking and Volunteering at the Elephant Nature Park on the 10th. Also hoping to include Chiang Dao and some spelunking in this stretch.

Tuesday Nov. 11 -
Fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Wednesday Nov. 12 & Thursday Nov. 13 -
Angkor Wat and maybe Phnom Penh for the Killing Fields

Friday Nov. 14 -
Fly to Bangkok. 2 days in Bangkok for lots of bug-eating and filling of the suitcases with useless plastic objects. More Wats to go to along with the Grand Palace.

Sunday Nov. 16 -
Leave Bangkok 12:30 PM

Monday Nov. 17 -
Arrive Tokyo 7:15 AM. Meet up with my good friend Mel in Tokyo (she'll be living in Japan teaching English!) and have her show us a good, albeit short, time. Leave Tokyo 7:25 PM, Arrive JFK 6:05 PM

A few things here and there are subject to change, I'm sure. I'm not really sure we can fit in the sidetrip to Phnom Penh, but it would an educational treat if we can manage. We have yet to decide exactly which island to go to, but accorind to TravelFish.org's weather map we need to be in the Western side of the peninsula for the least amount of rain in early November and Ko Lanta and Ko Phi Phi seem like the best options for that area. The Similan Islands are also supposed to be nice, but more on that later.
